Find out exactly which documents you need before applying for any government scheme.

Universal Documents (Required for Almost All Schemes)

1. Aadhaar Card

A 12-digit unique identity number from UIDAI. Mandatory for almost all central government schemes. Your Aadhaar must be linked to your bank account for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

How to get it: Visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. Completely free. Visit uidai.gov.in to find a centre near you.

2. Aadhaar-Linked Bank Account

Most benefits are sent directly to your bank account. Visit your bank branch with your Aadhaar card, or link through internet banking, mobile banking app, or ATM.

3. Passport-Size Photographs

Keep 4–6 recent passport-size photographs (35mm × 45mm, plain white background) ready at all times.

4. Mobile Number Linked to Aadhaar

Required for OTP verification during online applications. Visit any Aadhaar enrolment centre to update your mobile number if needed.

Income & Financial Documents

Income Certificate

Issued by a Tehsildar, District Magistrate, or Revenue Officer. Required for almost all income-based schemes. Apply at your local tehsil/SDM office or through your state's online service portal or CSC centre.

BPL Card

Issued to Below Poverty Line families. Contact your Gram Panchayat or municipal ward office to check if your family is on the BPL list.

Bank Statement (Last 6 Months)

Required for loan-based schemes (Mudra, CLSS, Stand Up India). Get from your bank branch or download via internet banking.

Land & Agriculture Documents

Khasra / Khatoni (Land Record)

Proves agricultural land ownership. Required for PM Kisan and Fasal Bima Yojana. Get from your Patwari or the state's online land records portal (e.g., bhulekh.up.gov.in for UP, dharani.telangana.gov.in for Telangana).
